Film Fashion Inspiration: Vamps

Hello all

I've always been an early bird. As soon as there is light in my room, I wake up. Unfortunately, my boyfriend loves sleeping in. This means I usually have a few hours to kill on a Saturday and Sunday morning. Sometimes I blog, but more often then not I watch a film. This Saturday just gone I discovered the film 'Vamps', directed by Amy Heckerling & starring Alicia Silverstone & Krysten Ritter
Amy Heckerling also directed iconic film 'Clueless' which also starred Alicia Silverstone & 'Vamps' certainly lived up to my expectations of a funny chick flick with amazing styling!
I love the idea of vampires, I've watched a lot of vampire films & TV series & have read several vampire books/ series. So this modern take on female vampires really interested me. The description stated it was 'Stakes & The City', & in some ways I agree.
I won't be doing a movie review, although I do encourage you to watch this film as I thought it was brilliant. I will be focusing on the styling of Goody (Alicia Silverstone) & Stacy (Krysten Ritter). Both are amazing, funny actresses, but the styling & costumes, by Mona May (who, again, also did the costumes of 'Clueless') is amazing.

First off, Goody. Goody became a vampire in the 1800s and evidence from her lengthy after-life is obvious in her costuming. Combining elements of several different decades, the style Mona created for her is beautiful. I would say it is very romantic gothic & classic and I really like it.
In contrast, Stacy is more of a 'traditional' vampire in her styling. Her style is sexy, lots of black and more modern than Goody. Stacy was 'turned' in the eighties, but her style is very fashion forward.
Together, the two main characters aesthetically look incredible next to each other and compliment each others styling, while still having strong individual style.
Below I have styles a day and a night outfit for Goody and Stacy:
 All MissSelfridge
All New Look except clutch bag (Topshop) and studded heels (Dr Martens)

I think MissSelfridge epitomizes Goody's vintage style, one that I like myself. However I loved styling Stacy's look. I recently saw these super high (can I say stripper?) heels in New Look and while they are incredibly impractical, for a film costume and dramatic look I think they would really work! Also, the studded, cut-out Dr Martens are beautiful. Overall, I think I like Stacy's style more, but can appreciate the delicacy of Goody's style too!

I hope you enjoyed my first 'Film Fashion Inspiration', I'm hoping to make it a regular feature!

Little Ghost Jewellery- Vintage Bespoke Beauty

Hello all!

Happy Friday! We've had such nice weather this week, which will apparently continue over the weekend, better get the factor 50 out.
Today I want to talk to you about a unique jewellery brand I came across this week; Little Ghost Jewellery. Finding them on twitter and following through to the website I fell in love with the jewellery immediately. I recently featured The Great Frog that has really dramatic, chunky silver pieces, which I do love. However, Little Ghost Jewellery are delicate and lovingly made from unusual vintage objects, not usually seen in jewellery.

I wanted to fully research this post so I spoke to owner and designer, Lisa, who said:
'I have always had a love of Victorian and Edwardian times and I wanted to create jewellery that combined the past yet had a unique modern feel'
I think she has most definitely succeeded. Many of the beautiful necklaces are made from antique door or cabinet hinges and locks, or cogs from clocks giving them the much sort after vintage look that many high street retailers feign in their jewellery lines.

With the name coming from an old book of poems and making old, often blackened pieces and creating bespoke jewellery, Little Ghost Jewellery combines the right amount of delicacy and size to add subtle yet eye-catching  necklaces. Another great tool Lisa has used is old typewriter keys, giving you the option to buy a personalized necklace with your initial from an authentic source, rather than a plastic copy.
You'll be able to see the brilliant branding that runs through all channels of the website and twitter, from product shots on pages of 'Wuthering Heights', to the distressed Victorian wallpaper, the whole brand echos a time gone by and vintage.
Affordable and unique, I love this jewellery brand. Knowing that it is lovingly made by someone who is passionate about creating beautiful and bespoke jewellery makes me like it even more. Also knowing that you are unlikely to see anyone else with the exact piece you are wearing is a bonus.
I will leave you with my personal favourite piece, from the Midnight Collection:

Follow Little Ghost Jewellery on Twitter @lisalittleghost or shop the jewellery online at http://littleghostjewellery.co.uk and find your little piece of vintage treasure!

J'adore... Cat Eye Sunnies

Before I got contact lenses, I was never really into sunglasses as a style statement or even a necessity. That was until I was 15 and was treated to some designer prescription sunglasses and I suddenly appreaciated how s good pair of sunnies can complete a look. Unfortunately, my prescription got worse so I only got about a year and a half out of that pair- although I still have them, so I am contemplating getting normal lenses put in them so I can still wear them.

However, although designer sunglasses are nice and are sometimes better quality than cheaper versions, they are incredibly expensive and especially living in England where we don't get the chance to wear them too often, the cost per wear of these high end sunnies don't seem worth it. Luckily, the great British High Street have some great pairs that look great at a fraction of the price!

I can never decide whether I have a square or heart-shaped face, but cat eye sunglasses, and normal glasses for that matter, seem to suit my bone structure really nicely. The upwards design kind of follows my cheek bones and I think they flatter me. I also love the vintage feel they have, and always reminds me of the fifties!

Here are my personal favourite cat eye sunglasses:
Clockwise from top left: New Look | BooHoo | River Island | Topshop | Chanel (a girl can dream) | Forever 21

So, as usual they stick to my prefered colour palette of black and white! But the River Island cream and leopard print did catch my eye! I fell in love with the Chanel pearl sunglasses recently, they looke a-maz-ing, but at over £400 I definitely couldn't justify them, however the BooHoo ones are a lot cheaper and are really lovely too. I do pearls! The Topshop glasses are more cat's ear that cat's eye but they are adorable and quirky so I had to include them.

Now I just need to book a nice holiday, or the weather in England needs to imporve so I can wear them!
